Learning

A willingness to learn is the energy source that powers change.

Futurist and author Alvin Toffler (The Third Wave) has an often cited quote:  ”It will not be the person who cannot read or write. It will be the person that does not know how to learn, unlearn, and relearn.”

We are in total agreement.  Ever-changing technologies have placed information at the fingertips of most of the world.  What we knew as state-of-the-art as of yesterday may no longer be applicable today. If we wish to continue to be relevant, we must embrace a culture of continuous learning. The good news is that technology places much of this information at our fingertips.

For those who embrace continuous learning, the Social Media Guide Mashable , provides an excellent learning resource.  The site lists 10  places to learn something new in less than 10 minutes a day.  Five of the ten featured sites, and what you will learn are:

5min - 5min bills itself as a “life videopedia,” which essentially means that it aggregates and hosts instructional and DIY how-to videos from sites all over the web.

MonkeySee - MonkeySee is another instructional video sharing site that invites experts to share both amateur and professionally created how-to and advice videos.

YouTube – Buried beneath all the fluff is a treasure trove of great how-to and educational content, and because of the site’s 10 minute time limit on most videos, you can learn new things in no time flat. Start at the YouTube EDU section, which aggregates content from colleges and universities, then branch off and search the site for how-to clips on any topic you want to learn about.

IMinds - Original, short audio podcasts about liberal arts topics (such as history, economics, current events, and business) that are approximately eight minutes in length each. The idea is to allow people to learn new things, from a credible source while on the go

The Week - The Week is a printed current events magazine delivered, rather predictably, once per week. The magazine summarizes the news of the previous week by drawing on a variety of sources to present a short, but balanced, overview of issues.
